African Diaspora Film Festival

2012 marks 100 years of selfless struggle of the ANC. The ANC-US Interim Branch, ADIFF and WBAI have partnered to reflect on the achievements and lessons learned from 100 years of struggle for freedom and human rights by the ANC.

After its theatrical release in New York City, "The First Rasta" is opening in Chicago at Facets Cinematheque in a limited engagement. "The First Rasta" is an extraordinary documentary that explores the life of the creator of the Rasta Movement.

Direct, poignant and gorgeous, "Scheherazade, Tell Me a Story" connects the stories of “women constrained by long standing social norms” that make their lives very hard to live in contemporary Cairo, Egypt.

The African Diaspora International Film Festival and the Office of the VP for Diversity & Community Affairs, Teachers College, Columbia Univ. are presenting The Women Who Fight Back Film Series, which will be held at Teachers College from June 3-5.

March is Women’s History Month. In that context, ADIFF is presenting the “Women Behind the Camera” film series, a selection of films by independent women from various countries such as Cape Verde, Switzerland, Senegal, Peru, Australia, Haiti...

Thirteen films, including several World, US and New York Premieres, will screen during the 5th Annual African Diaspora Summer Film Series presented by the African Diaspora Film Festival and The Riverside Theatre from August 20 to August 29, 2010.

ADFF 2010-Chicago will showcase the works of Stanley Nelson, Raoul Peck , John Kani, Aaron Woolfolk and many others whose films come directly from FESPACO, the Toronto International Film Festival, ADFF-New York and Sundance.

– As part of its ongoing monthly screenings, ADFF is presenting YOUSSOU N’DOUR: RETURN TO GOREE on May 28 and the “YOUNG PEOPLE AND SOCIETY” FILM SERIES on May 29 and 30, a program that will explore the life of young people through films.

In honor of Women’s History month, ADFF presents films from Mali, Canada, the USA, Ethiopia and Chad focusing on mothers and a panel discussion featuring educators, intellectuals & mothers who will discuss motherhood, society and cinema.
