The United States Department of Treasury recently approved, in supplemental directive 12-07, that the Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives program, or HAFA, be extended for another year through the end of 2013.

On January 1, 2013, Upside Down Homeowners were supported when The United States Congress passed an extension to the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act as part of tax bill H.R. 8. This is the bill addressing the “fiscal cliff.”

Southern California residents can now take advantage of unprecedented incentives to sell the home they can’t afford. New bank and government programs offer incentives to homeowners who undergo a foreclosure alternative, most commonly short sales.

For California homeowners in distress over the thought of losing their home to foreclosure, walking away might seem like the only solution. Some in danger of losing their home are reverting to Strategic Default as a method to avoid Foreclosure.

Distressed Homeowners in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley may see additional relief from the banks soon. In February, the government signed a historic $25 billion dollar settlement with five major lenders.

The Department of Treasury announced recent changes to the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) in an effort to extend the reach to homeowners seeking help with mortgage affordability.
