FORUM brings playwrights, actors and audience members together to enjoy the creative process of bringing a play to life. All readings include a post-show discussion with the author and director, as well as Artistic Director John Pietrowski.

This year’s participating playwrights include EM Lewis, Ellen Claire Porter and Yasmine Beverly Rana. Like the first round writers, each will have three private readings of their plays, and a final reading during the Forum Series in December 2013.

Playwrights Theatre was the recipient of several grants that will aid in the development of new plays as well as support the educational programs located at the theatre in the Creative Arts Academy and throughout New Jersey.

Playwrights Theatre will be conducting writing residencies in Newark with their NJ Writer’s Project, a co-sponsored program with the NJ State Council on the Arts. Some works will be performed by professional actors at the Stages Festival at NJPAC.

Winners of the 2009 New Jersey State Council on the Arts’ Literary Artist Fellowship Program will present their work in Madison, Hoboken, Long Beach Island and Somerville over the next few months.

The co-production (appropriate for all ages), will preview on December 13 and run through December 30, 2012 (Press Opening: Saturday, December 15 at 8:00pm, no performances on Friday, December 14 and Saturday, December 29).

Plays are accepted in the following divisions: Elementary (grades 4-6), Junior High (grades 7-9) and High School (grades 10-12). Interested young playwrights must submit their plays online at www.njypf.org.
