West Sound Academy

Laurence Kerr, retired U.S. Foreign Service official and former West Sound Academy teacher, and has joined the school's Board of Trustees.

The band Before Cars played live on KJR's Bob Rivers Show on January 17, 2014. Band members include WSA music teacher Paul Burback and Chad Channing, a 2014 inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, for his roll as drummer for Nirvana.

Several of West Sound Academy's alumni have come to visit their alma mater this January. Some alumni have stopped in on their holiday breaks from college just to say hello to favorite teachers and staff.

Artist Derek Gundy created a painting, "Going the Distance," for West Sound Academy's auction on Nov. 16, 2013, and a series of 50 small watercolor paintings that tell a longer story about the importance of imagination, creativity, and determination.

West Sound Academy student Makenzie Moody, Miss Poulsbo 2013, plans to keep working to support local charities and businesses and make appearances at community celebrations - like the annual lutefisk dinner - in the second half of her reign.

At the final Knowledge Bowl competition for teams in the Olympic Educational Service District (OESD) on February 28 at Fort Worden State Park, there was a lot at stake for participating teams.

The annual Kitsap Arts & Crafts (KAC) Student Art Show has a new date and venue. West Sound Academy's Frodel Gallery will host the show May 31-June 1. Winning student artwork will be displayed at the KAC Festival Art Show, July 25-28, in Kingston.

Mud Pie, West Sound Academy's annual literary magazine, has received the Highest Award from the National Council of Teachers of English in that organization's 2012 Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines (PRESLM).

Students who are new to West Sound Academy and enrolling for Fall, 2013, have two opportunities to earn merit scholarships: a Middle School event on December 8, 2013 and the Founders' Scholarship Day for all grade levels on February 9, 2013.

West Sound Academy's Frodel Gallery presents Gaia Gourds, a collection of embellished natural gourds by Leslie Hassett, on exhibit October 4 - November 8. 2012. WSA will host a gallery reception for the artist October 18th from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
