Surgical team at Pitt Count Memorial Hospital completes two successful procedures on the same day.

A national health care research firm has rated University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina among the nation’s most highly integrated health care networks.

This month marks the first anniversary of the opening of the East Carolina Heart Institute at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. In its first year, the Heart Institute has treated more than 6,000 inpatients and been home to more than 70,000 procedures.

University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina in Greenville, North Carolina has been chosen as the tertiary partner to explore improvements in the delivery of specialized heart care services for people in Nash and surrounding counties.

Patients are now being treated at the East Carolina Heart Institute at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, nearly three years after breaking ground on the facility. The $160 million patient bed tower is home to 120 inpatient cardiovascular beds.

Officials from East Carolina University and University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina dedicated the East Carolina Heart Institute today.
