Southeast Ventura County YMCA

The Yarrow Family YMCA is $375,000 away from reaching its $12 million fundraising goal needed to complete construction before its opening this spring.

In response to the recent tragedies in California, professional athletes Christian Yelich, Ryan Braun, Mike Moustakas and Jared Goff, have joined forces with the Southeast Ventura County YMCA to create California Strong.

The event, held September 22 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village, welcomed nearly 500 guests.

The length of the races are short enough so everyone can get an early morning workout and still make it home in time to take part in their Thanksgiving gathering.

The program, through the Southeast Ventura County Y branches (Conejo Valley YMCA, Triunfo YMCA and Simi Valley Family YMCA), will reach over 225 campers each week.

Koubek is responsible for managing current operations as well as overseeing the transition to the new Triunfo YMCA when the new facility opens in 2019.

Two of the hallways in the new Y will be named after Kaiser Permanente.

When growing up in Baltimore and while living in the Bay Area, the YMCA has always been a consistent part of Norris' life. She even swam in the same Maryland YMCA pool as Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps.

With a fundraising goal of $524,500, the money raised will fund scholarships to offset the costs of membership and programs for those in financial need. Last year, the SEVC YMCA distributed nearly $400,000 in scholarships.
