Rapaport Family Charitable Trust recently donated a gift of $15,000 to South Nassau Communities Hospital for the purchase of a new infant transporter for the hospital’s Labor and Delivery Suite.

According to a study conducted by radiation oncologists at the Cleveland Clinic, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) performed on recurring brain tumors proved effective at extending the survival of the patient and controlling the tumor.

The study is based on the research team’s analysis of 111 patients who initially were treated with whole-brain-radiation-therapy (WBRT) then received stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) to treat the tumor recurrence.

South Nassau Communities Hospital’s director of trauma and surgical critical care, Richard A. Bagdonas, M.D., has been inducted into the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma.

The study found that delaying surgery to repair ACL tears in patients younger than 14 years of age is associated with a 4-fold increase in medial meniscus cartilage tears and an 11-fold increase in severe lateral cartilage injuries.
