Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, the SME Education Foundation, a catalyst for innovative education, funds programs delivered by educators trained and credentialed in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.

As the U.S. ramps up efforts to improve STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing) education, Dr. Taraman continues to lead the SME Education Foundation as it builds on its 30-year record of advancing technology-based education.

The SME Education Foundation 2011 Board of Directors, including four new members, will continue to expand its STEM-based education programs.

Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, the SME Education Foundation, a catalyst for innovative education, provides enumerable resources for young people on tech-based careers including Manufacturing is Cool.com and CareerMe.org

The Andersen Corporate Foundation, Bayport, Minn., has funded $25,000 to the SME Education Foundation for their Gateway Academy, a national, technology-based program for 6-8th graders offering STEM education.

The SME Education Foundation has awarded $382,250 in scholarships and awards ranging from $1,000 to $70,000 to 140 students in the U.S. and Canada. Applications for the academic year 2011-2012 will be accepted in mid-September 2010.

Students pursuing careers in machining technology can access scholarships available through the SME Education Foundation, thanks to funding from the Gene Haas Foundation.

South Side teen entrepreneurs were awarded $40,000 in college scholarships and cash in the "Taste of Chicago-like" business camp, supported by Ford Motor Company Fund, Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center and the SME Education Foundation.
