At the pre-race skippers’ briefing, Hong Kong Observatory offered much in the way of cloud, rain and squally thunderstorms for the start of the 19th San Fernando Race, however Race Officer Simon Boyde cheated the wind gods yet again...

It was the proverbial ‘game of two halves’ for the sailors today, as 235 boats of all shapes and sizes gathered in Victoria Harbour for the start of this year’s Tommy Bahama Around The Island Race.

The first Pursuit Race of the 2012-2013 season took place in Victoria Harbour today in an average 8 to 10kts of easterly breeze.

The Tommy Bahama Around The Island Race is organised by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and sponsored, for the first time, by the American leisure wear brand which will open its first flagship store in Hong Kong in December.

The Lipton Trophy presented by INFINITI will launch the 2012-2013 Top Dog Trophy Series.

With the strong support of Central Oceans, Links International, Northrop & Johnson and SLAM, RHKYC will be hosting the 2012-2013 Dragon Hong Kong Championship on 24/25 November with 7 races to take place in East Lamma, south of HK Island.

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club today announced that Tommy Bahama, the popular United States lifestyle brand, will be the Title Sponsor of the 2012 Around The Island Race.

Twelve boats will set off from Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour at 1220hrs on Thursday. The conditions being bandied around by those with access to weather services are 15 to 20kts of north / north east breeze – just perfect for this race.

Hong Kong Observatory, Wind Guru and Predict Wind were all in agreement, absolutely no sailing wind was expected on the race track today until late afternoon...

Day 2 of the St. Regis China Coast Regatta dawned with glassy waters and limp flags, leading to the AP being displayed at 0825hrs while Race Officer Charlie Manzoni took to the water in a bid to find some wind and get some racing in for the fleet.
