William Hay’s novel, The Originals, is the story of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, founded by Hamilton Gault in 1914 at the beginning of World War I. Bill Dawson, an ex-veteran of the Boer War, joins the regiment.

Allan Fisk’s novel, Forty Testoons, is the story of Father Ralph Fletcher who, in 1504, is hired by Henry VII, the king on England for forty testoons to serve the fishermen who come each year to fish the Grand Banks off the coast of Newfoundland.
