Official crackdown on Lao churches in Savannakhet province that had started almost eight months ago in Dongpaiwan village in Saybuli district on September 14, 2011 is now spreading to Phin district of Savannakhet. Closure of churches is likely.

Lao churches in Savannakhet are still being denied access to their churches, with three of the churches challenging the legitimacy of orders of the Lao officials and continuing to assemble exercise their constitutional guaranteed religious freedom.

Officials in Savannakhet province ambushed a church worship service of local Christians in Paksong village, arrested their church leader Pastor Khamsorn, and then barred local Christians from holding any more church services at that location.

Lao district officials in savannakhet province of laos closed down the 4th lao church, citing that christians did not have permission to build the church building and that throughout saybuli district, only dongpoong village church is recognized.
