On 10 February 2014 the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) published their interim final rule on Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), Quality Factors, Notification Requirements, and Records and Reports, for Infant Formula.

In January 2014, the EU has announced 4 Commission Regulations amending Annexes II, III and V to Directive 2005/396/EC as regards maximum residue levels for pesticides in or on food and feed of plant and animal origin.

In November 2013, Health Canada published a notice addressing the danger of children’s toys containing small powerful magnets or magnetic components.

In December 2013, the Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemi) published a report entitled “What would a chemical tax on consumer goods look like? - With an example clothes and shoes.”

The Republic of Philippines has recently issued an Order to restrict lead content in paints and certain consumer products. The effective date is dependent on the nature of the product and starts in January 2014.

On 14 January 2014 the US FDA published two final guidance documents, Distinguishing Liquid Dietary Supplements from Beverages (1) and Considerations Regarding Substances Added to Foods, Including Beverages and Dietary Supplements (2).

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has approved a new federal mandatory standard for Bedside Sleepers (1).

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) (1) has announced an updated amendment to Annex 3 of the Safety and Quality Labeling Standards – Leather Products. The effective date of adoption is December 21, 2013.

Regulation (EU) No 1321/2013 (1) was published on 10 December 2013 establishing the list of the smoke flavoring primary products authorized to the exclusion of all others in the European Union (EU) for use in or on foods.
