Agency's Compressed Natural Gas Bus Fleet Contributes to Clean...

(San Bernardino, CA)—Omnitrans will hold current bus fares steady but is proposing three fare policy changes which would take effect in July.

Omnitrans is excited to introduce its new NexTrip real time arrival prediction system for bus riders. The NexTrip technology provides live, stop-specific bus information via text, voice, smart mobile devices and computers.

In order to accomodate the new 60-foot articulated vehicles that will operate on its sbX bus rapid transit line, Omnitrans is making upgrades to its vehicle maintenance facility. The public is invited to an open house related to this construction.

More than 1.5 million trips were tallied on Omnitrans buses for October, an all-time agency high. CEO, Milo Victoria, credits the public's growing interest in economical and environmentally friendly transportation.

Nationally, public bus ridership was up about 5% for the first quarter of calendar year 2012, while Omnitrans grew 8%. The agency credits the ridership increase to a rise in public transit usage among student populations

Young newlyweds, Maryrose and Corey Boggs, relied on Omnitrans buses as a valuable tool to help them find resources and hunt for jobs while living on the streets in San Bernardino county.

On June 13, 2012, Omnitrans joins other key stakeholders in evaluating and updating a statewide disaster preparedness program for first responders from local government.
