Ovarian cancer fund-raising event adds 5k run to broaden its reach in the Salt Lake community

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and in Salt Lake City, several organizations are joining forces to aid in the fight against ovarian cancer by creating awareness of symptoms, risk factors and raising funds for innovative research.

The 3rd Annual HERA Climb4Life Colorado held June 26 - 27 in Boulder, raised $60,948 for the HERA Foundation’s ovarian cancer research grant program and awareness initiatives. The fundraising total represents a $20,000 increase over 2008.

To honor the life of Sean Patrick, founder of the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation, St. George, Utah based singer-songwriter Misty Murphy’s soon-to-be-released album, “Float,” includes her latest single, “Sean’s Song.”

The HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation, a non-profit foundation that raises funding for ovarian cancer research and awareness initiatives, announces Samantha Lockwood, 35, of Philadelphia and James Nice, 41, of Los Angeles as new board members.
