POWER's "Voter Sabbath" weekend (3/8 & 3/9) aims to get 5,000 "infrequent" voters to the polls in May and November by conducting sophisticated weekly phone banking techniques, getting signed voter commitment cards, and canvassing neighborhoods.

Mother Bethel sits on the oldest parcel of land continuously owned by African Americans, and is a National Historic Landmark. The church calls the new building design 'too modern for the neighborhood' and an 'eyesore outside it's front doorstep.'
