Warm breezes have blown in, so it’s time to open the windows and venture forth into the world. Local venues in South County, Rhode Island have a ready slate of events for winter-weary visitors.

Fine art, hot air ballooning, seafood, agricultural: South County, RI knows how to put on a summer festival. These perennial events have loyal fans, exhibitors and performers who return faithfully each year.

Dust off those cameras and tripods and set your focal point to South County, Rhode Island! The South County Tourism Council is sponsoring its 10th Annual Photo Contest .

The summer season starts in South County, Rhode Island during Memorial Day weekend. Our beaches are beautiful and relaxing, and there is always something to do and see.

South County can now boast of its tasty drinking water, too. The Atlantic States Rural Water & Wastewater Association held its Annual Drinking Water Taste Test competition on April 27. URI and Yawgoo Valley Ski & Sports Park won their divisions.

To celebrate the milestone of 25 years of promoting South County, Rhode Island, SCTC hosted a reception at the Ocean House, a Watch Hill landmark that showcased the best South County has to offer.

The South County Tourism Council nominated Perry Raso, of the Matunuck Oyster Bar and Matunuck Oyster Farm to be recognized with the Governor’s Tourism Achievement Award at the Annual RI Tourism Unity Luncheon.

The aroma of the quintessential summer beach food, clam cakes, took over the halls of the RI State House on Thurs., May 5, for the 19th annual “Celebrate South County Day and the Rest of the State,” the kick-off of 2011 National Tourism Week.

KINGSTON, RI – The University of Rhode Island is hosting the Fifth Annual Ocean State Summer Writing Conference June 23-25. The conference hosts workshops and offers writers a chance to network with other writers.
