YMCAs serving the Conejo Valley, Simi Valley, Moorpark and Santa Rosa Valley are offering week-long "away" camps for young people to explore the outdoors in a variety of settings--all part of the Y's "A Summer to Discover."

Teens from sixth through 12 grades can participate in a number of leadership programs this fall at the Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park. A parent information meeting will be held Tuesday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Miller Y.

Celebrate July 4th with an old-fashioned community get-together and 5K Run/Walk at the Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park (in the Paraíso Center, 320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park).

Erin Pierik, formerly senior program director for the Simi Valley Family YMCA, is now the new executive director at the Conejo Valley YMCA.

Nine local middle schoolers represented four different countries at this month's YMCA Model United Nations Conference in Burbank. The six, seventh and eighth graders were part of the Triunfo YMCA and Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park delegations.

Vibrant Woman, a free women's conference, will be held Saturday, May 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks Library. The conference will focus on women's health, stress management and navigating the world of food and fitness.

The four branches of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA (Conejo Valley YMCA, Triunfo YMCA, Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park and Simi Family YMCA) are now taking sign-ups for summer swim lessons, swim teams and junior lifeguard training.

The Triunfo YMCA, serving Westlake Village, Agoura and Oak Park, offers a camp for every age group and interest. Summer camp runs from June 20 through August 19 at Willow Elementary School in Agoura Hills.

Parents still have time to sign up their kids to week-long spring camps in Moorpark and Agoura Hills through the YMCA. Both camps are for students in grades kindergarten through eighth and coincide when schools are out for spring break.

Bill Redell, head football coach at Oaks Christian School, is the keynote speaker for the Southeast Ventura County YMCA's 12th Annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast on May 5.
