PineCone - Piedmont Council of Traditional Music

"Going Down to Raleigh: Stringband Music in the North Carolina Piedmont 1976-1998" is a two-disc anthology CD featuring field recordings highlighting the distinctive music traditions of the Piedmont region. Proceeds from CD sales benefit PineCone.

PineCone and the Town of Wake Forest present a free concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4 as part of the official grand opening celebration for the Town's newest park.

While lawmakers struggle to approve a budget for the fiscal year that began today, the Museum, a state institution, will maintain the Music of the Carolinas series, which it has been presenting for more than a decade in partnership with PineCone.

PineCone's 2009-2010 Down Home Series in Raleigh will feature a wide array of artists, from old favorites to up-and-coming musicians, including a Winter Music Festival at the end of January celebrating the nonprofit organization's 25th anniversary.

Scott Ainslie performs on guitars and a one-stringed diddley bow (of African derivation), and he recently took up the gourd banjo and Southern old-time fiddling. From 1986-2001, he presented artist-in-residency programs in North Carolina & Virginia.

On Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, NC songwriters Barney Rogers and Russell Johnson will perform a free concert featuring songs from their new album, When the Bands Played, at the NC Museum of History as part of the Music of the Carolinas series.

For one night only, Russ Barenberg and Bryan Sutton will join forces for an evening of personal, spontaneous music making that happens only when two virtuosic musicians get together and jam.
