Theresa Strader, founder of National Mill Dog Rescue in Peyton, CO is honored to be recognized as a “Hero Among Us” in the current issue of People Magazine. Theresa hopes the story will spread awareness about the cruel reality of puppy mills.

National Mill Dog Rescue recently returned from a sweep through the Midwest states, rescuing 91 dogs from commercial breeding facilities, also known as puppy mills. They also transported 25 cats to safety during this mission.

Born in the squalor of a Kansas puppy mill, this Keeshond had her back feet and tail chewed off by her mother. She was rescued by National Mill Dog Rescue out of Peyton, CO. Five days into freedom, Ziva died of heartworm disease.

On June 11th, from 8am-1pm at American the Beautiful Park, the National Mill Dog Rescue will have their Ruff Life Freedom 5k Run/Walk. A family and canine friendly event including a Vendor Expo with contests and fun activities for the kids.

Sunday, the National Mill Dog Rescue received an email from a commercial breeder in MO. They could no longer feed their dogs and they were going out of business! They said if you want the dogs, get here before the weekend or they will be shot!

Ever wonder how NMDR has saved over 4,500 dogs in 4 years? Every few weeks, a rescue is orchestrated. Beginning April 9th and through this week, 3 separate rescue teams from NMDR will be saving approximately 150 dogs.
