The takeover of INTRON puts the SGS group in a leading position as service supplier in the building sector in the Netherlands and in Europe. For INTRON the acquisition forms an important step in the international development.

On August 7th, 2009 SGS officially opened its first independent laboratory for natural stone and homogeneous material in Xiamen, which provides testing and CE certification for stone exports to European, African and Asian countries.

SGS was assigned United States Patent No. 7,596,419 on September 29, 2009, for a Positive Material Identification inspection system.

In October 2009, SGS Statutory Services Belgium was accredited as Authorized Inspection Organization (AIO) for the certification of Belgian offshore installations for the production of electricity from renewable energy.

SGS attended the China Wind Power 2009, October 21-23, 2009 in Beijing, China. The conference provided SGS a great opportunity to introduce its new Wind Energy Technology Center.
