PineCone - Piedmont Council of Traditional Music

North Carolina's own Al Batten & the Bluegrass Reunion return to Wake Forest to kick off PineCone's third season of music at the beautiful E Carroll Joyner Park Amphitheater. This concert is on June 5 at 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The third PineCone Summer Series at Sertoma kicks off on Saturday, May 14 with a special concert featuring three local North Carolina bands: Tubby Ridge; Ace & T-Bone; and Nixon, Blevins & Gage.

"Sprout Wings & Fly" is a touching tribute to Appalachian culture that profiles old-time fiddler Tommy Jarrell. Musician Alice Gerrard and English Professor Cece Conway will introduce the film at the NC Museum of History on Sunday, May 8.

Tim May and Dan Miller will conduct an all-level flatpicking workshop and perform a concert on Saturday, April 2. The focus of the workshop will involve how to use efficient technique to increase speed, improve note clarity and fluidity, and more.

North Carolina's annual Sacred Harp Singing Convention will be held in Raleigh's Pullen Memorial Church on Saturday, March 5. The event is free and open to the public and includes a potluck lunch. No musical background is necessary to participate!

Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas perform at the Community Church Concerts in Chapel Hill, with special guests The Shamrockers opening. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. The concert is Friday night, March 4, and the music starts at 8 p.m.

PineCone & the NC Museum of History present a free concert featuring North Carolina's own Thistledown Tinkers on Sunday, March 13 as part of the Music of the Carolinas concert series. The music starts at 3 p.m., and program notes will be provided.

Raleigh, NC will start celebrating St. Patrick's Day early with a special performance by The Chieftains on Sunday, March 13. PineCone and Broadway Series South co-sponsor this concert. Tickets are still available by phone, online and in person.

PineCone presents the Sam Bush Band with special guests Bearfoot at the Meymandi Concert Hall in downtown Raleigh's Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The show starts at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17. Call 919-664-8302 to reserve tickets.

Limited tickets remain for Jake Shimabukuro's Raleigh performance on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011! PineCone has presented Shimabukuro twice before, and both times his concert has sold out. His music also helped bring together Raleigh's Hawaiian community.
