As winter approaches and the temperature decreases, the volume of need increases throughout St. Joseph County. Fortunately, United Way's 211 Information & Referral Service is here to help.

Simply Amazing Market, a gourmet popcorn and fudge market located in Valparaiso is celebrating its grand reopening Saturday, November 13, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and will feature a life-size Candy Land game (10 a.m. - 1 p.m.) for kids 12 and under.

Money Smart Week, October 16-23, is a program of the Federal Reserve that promotes financial literacy and wellness.  A series of free classes are designed to help people better manage their personal finances and investments.

United Way of St. Joseph County’s Initiative, People Gotta Eat, successfully raised $80,000, which was matched by anonymous donors. At this time, People Gotta Eat will be distributing $150,000 to its participating pantries.

On Friday, October 8, United Way of St. Joseph County is hosting a "UW Rally" to kick off its 2010 Campaign from 5-7 p.m. with a Pep Rally at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.

United Way of St. Joseph County it requesting its fellow community members to make an impact in St. Joseph County by becoming an IRS-Certified VITA/TCE Volunteer Preparer.

United Way 2-1-1 distributes discount prescription cards for those in need who do not have prescription insurance. These cards save people 20-50% off the cost of prescriptions.

Thanks to the generous support of the St. Joseph County community, the 2009 United Way annual campaign raised over $3 million. In turn, United Way leveraged nearly $6 million in impact by generating additional revenue and savings.

HMS Midwest, a medical billing company in Chesterton, IN, has launched Change in Motion a charity bicycle classic that will be held annually to benefit local charities.
