The Third Annual Dr. James Hannemann Leadership Award was presented to Bart A. Aslin, director, SME Education Foundation at the 2010 National Robotics Challenge on April 17.

A new scholarship offered by The National Council for Minorities in Engineering, Inc. (NACME) and the SME Education Foundation rewards the academic excellence of minorities pursuing manufacturing engineering education.

The SME Education Foundation has funded $815,000 to its industry partner, Project Lead The Way for expansion of its Gateway Academy, a summer program which introduces 6th-8th grade students to the basics of engineering concepts.

The SME Education Foundation has begun to fund Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) Centers at 400 Project Lead The Way high schools across the country.

This summer, 6th - 8th grade students in Eagle River, Wis. will be introduced to the basics of engineering concepts at the Gateway Academy - a summer youth program offered by the SME Education Foundation and Project Lead The Way.

The Italian Trade Commission has awarded six U.S. college students a two-week trip to Italy, March 13-27, to visit top machine tool companies, and participate in an advanced international engineering program at Politecnic University-Milan, Italy.

The SME Education Foundation will be honored at the Progressive Manufacturing Awards Gala on May 5, 2010 at The Breakers in Palm Beach, FL.

The SME Education Foundation's investment in Manufacturing Education Centers offers advanced manufacturing Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) courses to high school students.
