SME Education Foundation

The SME Education Foundation celebrates National Engineers Week - Feb. 15-21, with the distribution of their new video, "Innovate: All Systems Go," featuring high school students building their own solar car and visiting the Johnson Space Center.

The SME Education Foundation’s investment in STEM education includes enhancing the image of manufacturing, creating new manufacturing centers, funding scholarships, and a new program in advanced manufacturing.

Industry leader and philanthropist, Earl Walker, will lead events surrounding the SME Education Foundation's 30th Anniversary made possible through the visionary leadership, hard work and generous support of industry and individuals.

In celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year, the SME Education Foundation is building on the legacy of individual donors who established endowments thirty years ago - allowing it to provide awards, scholarships, in-kind gifts and youth programs.

The Ford Motor Company Fund, in a partnership with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation, is working to accelerate workforce development by supporting students who focused on STEM education with Ford Blue Oval Scholarships.

The SME Education Foundation has been recognized by Project Lead The Way for outstanding leadership in offering technology-based education to middle and high school students and motivating them to consider manufacturing engineering careers.

The SME Education Foundation honors those who influence and encourage young people to take advantage of STEM education to better prepare themselves for the highly-skilled jobs industry needs and emerging technologies will demand.

Ten outstanding educators have been recognized with the Building the Future Award for their commitment to advancing student interest in pursuing technical careers which are sorely needed for a highly skilled future workforce.

Funding from the Ford Motor Company Fund supports the SME Ford Partnership for Advanced Studies Ford (PAS) and Henry Ford Academy Scholarships.

In fall 2009, the SME Education Foundation will launch a national fund-raising initiative to secure funding for programs that address perceptions of manufacturing as a career, and manufacturing education in science, technology, engineering, and math.
