The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park and The Wellness Community are combining resources to launch a cancer survivor wellness program this fall. The 12-week program will be held at the Miller Y in Newbury Park.

Southeast Ventura County YMCAs are making sure everyone, young and old, have an opportunity to swim throughout the year starting with a full schedule of swim classes and programs in September.

The Triunfo YMCA, serving Westlake Village, Oak Park and Agoura Hills, will hold a free family barbeque on Saturday, September 10 at Willow Elementary School (29026 Laro Dr., Agoura Hills).

The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park is offering all 2011 high school graduates free self-defense classes. Classes meet every Friday in August from noon to 2:00 p.m. No YMCA membership is required.

The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park's first Independence Day 5k Run/Walk & Car Show drew 575 runners and walkers to the July 4 event.

Southeast Ventura County YMCA branches serving the Conejo Valley, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Santa Rosa Valley, Westlake Village, Oak Park & Agoura are registering students for childcare programs for the 2011-12 school year.

Jorge Ostrovsky, a Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACFD) firefighter and a Miller Family YMCA member, will bicycle across the United States to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of 9-11. A community send-off breakfast will be held June 29.

YMCAs serving the Conejo Valley, Simi Valley, Moorpark and Santa Rosa Valley are offering week-long "away" camps for young people to explore the outdoors in a variety of settings--all part of the Y's "A Summer to Discover."

Teens from sixth through 12 grades can participate in a number of leadership programs this fall at the Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park. A parent information meeting will be held Tuesday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Miller Y.

Celebrate July 4th with an old-fashioned community get-together and 5K Run/Walk at the Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park (in the Paraíso Center, 320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park).
